Education is becoming more and more important these days as a way of recognising ones ability, pedicure - if you will, understanding, discipline and value in presenting their thoughts and ideas to a general body.
It would seem that ones identity is worth or directly related to ones worth based on the education that they have attained.
I remember my son, while taking a marketing course in high school involving entrepreneurship - he was to survey 10 professionals. He identified ten individuals who owned their own business. Of the ten only 2 had education past high school. It took the next two years, with lots of prayer, to get him to even consider college. Thankfully, one year before graduating college, he agreed to go after his BA right after obtaining his diploma.
So why was it important for my wife and I too see him engaged in education.
Education brings a dynamic of discipline that one rarely attains on their own. It provides opportunity for developing training in a specific area. Education in fact never ends. No matter what we are pursuing, what discipline we are engaged in, most of us will desire the opportunity of being more focused, developed, understood and when sharing, entertaining.
Discipleship is my favourite activity - some may call it mentoring, coaching, life training, stewardship guidance, spiritual fortitude teaching - and education affords my own growth, which affords the growth of those around me. Only when you and I are growing will those who follow grow with us. Do not lose the curiosity, discipline or enjoyment of learning.
Keep it as simple as you might need it to be - Ken Blanchard said that if we were to be well read - 15 minutes each day - on one specific discipline - it would be the equivalent of a university education.
Not sure exactly what will make you feel like a professional, but a sincere desire to learn, to grow, always left me with the feeling that I am a professional and every book I read, course I take, make me a better professional, able to give more, able to grow more.
