Fundamentals, barriers and goals with demands

Leaders can find themselves balancing at least two competing demands in business - people and process. On the people side of things there is the task of maintaining reputation and on the process side of things there is the improving of productivity.

So communication is aimed at meeting those demands and the trick is to keep them consistent with long range goals and interests. The unity of command principle helps preserve the concept of a continuous line of authority. It states that every employee should receive orders from only one superior. Without unity of command, conflicting demands and priorities from multiple managers can create problems.

This is where flexibility comes in handy. It is where I adapt to fit the needs of followers and demands of situations.

The wise adapt themselves to circumstances, as water molds itself to the pitcher. - Chinese proverb
